 Mini Sims

Mini Sims are simple simulations/tools of everyday business activities that can be used to apply business concepts.  They are meant to be used as tools, in or out of the classroom environment, for learners to practice their business decision-making skills.

Mini Sims are free and provided as examples of simulation's usefulness in applied learning.  For more comprehensive learning experiences, see our BusSim series of Business Simulations on this website.

Mower Sim This simulation teaches basic profit calculations through the use of a small Lawn Mower operation.  It simulates a 100 day mower season where the user decides the number of mowers to be used each day, the price to be charged for mowing and how much to spend on advertising.  This sim applies cash only reconciliation.  A results report and outcome chart are provided to measure performance.
Financial Statement Sim This simulation teaches the relationships and integration between the Financial Statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet and two forms of Cash Flow).  It uses color coding and graphics to show the interactive nature between such transactions as sales, purchasing, borrowing, investing and stocks.  It simulates 12 quarters of basic business operation.  Financial Ratios are reported for each period.
Business Sim This simulation teaches the relationships between several Business Decision variables in a typical manufacturing business environment.  It simulates 20 quarters of business operation.  Accrual accounting methods are used.  Each period an Integrated Financial Statement report is provided.
Cost-Volume-Profit Analysis Sim This simulation teaches basic Cost-Volume-Profit relationships through the use of graphic displays that change as the decision variables are changed.  The Normal Distribution is used to convert varying demand values to probabilities.
Material Requirements Planning (MRP) Tool This tool teaches basic MRP relationships through the use of graphic displays and the ability to change part data.  The Parts Explosion Report is used to display all part requirements to achieve the Master Schedule.  A single product (Table) with a fixed Bill of Materials is used in this example.
Critical Path Method (CPM) Tool This tool teaches basic Critical Path relationships through the use of graphic displays and the ability to change time and cost data.  A single network with fixed paths is used in this example.  The Crash Sequence Report is used to display how the network could be reduced one step at a time.
